Periodontal Treatment
Periodontal Disease (or Gum Disease) is an inflammatory disease caused by bacterial infection. If left untreated Periodontal Disease may lead to tooth loss in adults. It is the most common infectious disease in the world.
Periodontal means around the tooth. Healthy gums are pale pink, smooth and firm, fitting your teeth like a turtleneck sweater fits your neck. However, if an infection develops between the teeth, the gums will begin to pull away, become red and swollen and even bleed during chewing and brushing.
Periodontal Disease has often been labeled the "silent disease" due to the fact that most people are unaware they have it. Many patients only become aware of their symptoms once the disease is advanced. By recognizing the early signs of gum disease, you can avoid further deterioration of the gums and bone and prevent tooth loss.
